X-Men Fairy Tales #1

This is a wonderful comic that is interesting and full of adventure and mystery.  Based on a Japanese fairytale, this issue is about how the X-Men were formed.  In the comic, the X-Men face great danger during a long journey.  This page-turning book will keep you wanting more.  Not only is this an interesting comic, but also family friendly.

I liked the storyline.  It was a very creative way of mixing a fairytale with the American Marvel heroes, the X-Men.  I loved not only the storyline, but also the wonderfully vivid and realistic artwork.  You have to give the author C.B. Cebulski and artist Sana Takeda praise for their beautiful comic.

Be sure to stop by and pick up this issue, all of you X-Men lovers.  If you are a true X-Men fan, this is a series you cannot miss.  Stop by later in June to pick up X-Men Fairy Tales #2, "The Friendship of Boy Tortoise and the Eagle", based on an African fairy tale.

Mouse Guard: Shadows Within

In the second issue of this series, a mouse from the Mouse Guard faces great danger as he tries to figure out what happened to the Guard along the coast.  I liked the story, but I didn't find it as interesting as the first book from the series.  You really have to give David Peterson props for his wonderful artwork he put into this series Mouse Guard.  It was not easy for me to draw a single picture from the first book, when I tried. Anyway, to find out what happened to the mouse make sure to stop by at Comics, Legends and Heroes.  Be sure to stop by back in June for the third book of the series called Mouse Guard: Rise of the Axe. Hopefully it will pick up the intensity like the first Book in the series.

3-11-06 - Grand Opening Day!

Today’s turnout was phenomenal.  I want to thank everyone who showed up for Comics, Legends, and Heroes’ Grand Opening.  It was great to know that we will have customers of all age groups, rain or shine.

Even before we opened our doors we were amazed at how you all showed up early.  Throughout the day we offered discounts on everything from graphic novels to toys.  As everyone left they were given comics and stickers for free.  Not to mention the free coffee, donuts, hot chocolate, lollipops, popcorn, and sodas for everyone.

We had an enormous amount of comic books for sale, but I really enjoyed the new comic book series called Mouse Guard.  I won’t give too much away,  but I will give you a heads up on what the comic is about. 

 It’s about a group of mice who form a “mouse guard” to protect the mice from their predators and foes. The mouse guard is informed that a mouse who was a grain merchant disappeared. This is a page- turning book that will keep you guessing.  The pictures and storyline are so vivid and real, you have to give David Peterson a round of applause for his brilliant work.  Anyway, I really enjoyed the story and recommend that you pick up a copy for you or your children.  This book is for children of all ages.  Be sure to stop by Comics, Legends, and Heroes during April for the next issue called Mouse Guard, Shadows Within.

Special Events for June!

Saturday, June 24th was a great day at Comics Legends and Heroes!  Not only did we pass out tickets for the Superman Returns premiere, but we also had Mike Bullock, author of Lions Tigers and Bears (and soon to be the author of the Phantom) in our store!

Our special thanks to Mike for contributing his time to our store.  We made the event even more special by raffling a piece of original artwork from Lions Tigers and Bears.  The raffle raised an additional $44 for the West Valley Child Crisis Center, and Araceli Ortiz was our big winner.  She had the artwork personalized by Mike, and Mike even added some additional items for Araceli's brother, Anthony.  Araceli and Anthony, we want to thank you for your contributions to the West Valley Child Crisis Center and hope you enjoy the prizes!

And to everyone else who purchased a raffle ticket, our thanks to you as well.  With our two raffles thus far, we have raised $137 towards the purchase of comics for the West Valley Child Crisis Center. 

As for the Superman Returns premiere tickets, they were gone in about 20 minutes!  Apparently, the line had formed at about 10 pm the night before, and we had a line all the way around the building when we opened on Saturday!  Below are some pics from the event.

And the Winner is...

...Lupe Morrell of Glendale AZ.  Congratulations on winning the basket of X-Men goodies.  This includes an Ultimate X-Men #50 poster, Marvel Select Ultimate Wolverine Action Figure, X-Men Children of the Atom $1 digest, X-Men: The Last Stand Junior Novel, Ultimate X-Men comics #66 and #67, an X-Men Poster Book, and 2 packs of X-Men VS Card System.

The real winner, however, is the West Valley Child Crisis Center.  We want to thank everyone who contributed to the raffle and this great cause. 

Comics, Legends and Heroes is sponsoring the West Valley Child Crisis Center with a series of raffles to raise funds for the purchase of a comic rack in their facility.  Comics, Legends and Heroes will supply them with comics, but we need a little help to purchase an actual commercial quality rack for the center.

Our first raffle raised $92 towards the purchase of the comic rack!  Look for another raffle soon.  We will be featuring an actual piece of comic artwork from Lions Tigers and Bears #1.  The winner will be picked by Mike Bullock, the author of Lions Tigers and Bears, during his appearance in our store on Saturday, June 24th.  Mike will also personalize the artwork for the lucky winner, so you need to be present to win!!

Free Comic Book Day 2006

Free Comic Book Day 2006 on May 6th was a resounding success!  Thank you to all our existing patrons who helped make it one fantastic day, as well as the hundreds of new clients who visited our store for the very first time!  Since our business has only been open a couple of months, we were extremely surprised at the turnout this weekend.

Those who came early received the best of the free books, but we made sure that we had titles to hand out all day, even if they came from existing inventory!  No one was turned away empty-handed!  We will be ordering an even larger selection for next year's event, now that we know what to expect!

Our sincere appreciation goes out to the community for showing your support to the comic industry, and our store in particular!  Below are just a few of the photos from the event:

By the way, tickets for the Phoenix Cactus Comicon to be held September 23-24 at the Mesa Convention Center are still on sale in our store.  Through May 15, the tickets are only $15 each.  Afterwards, the prices will increase $10 per month.  The best time to buy them is now!

2/26/06 - Opening Day

It was a huge success, and we want to thank all of you who stopped in to check out our new store.  Below are some photos from our opening!

Just as we opened, we received a wonderful balloon gift from some very special people at Chase Bank!  You guys are great, and it was quite an unexpected surprise!  We also must thank Papa John's pizza for providing lunch... we'll be calling you often!

Irene, Jonathan, and Spidey are holding things down behind the counter.  You can see part of our huge selection of 1st issues behind the counter, and the showcases are filled with silver age classics from both Marvel and DC.  Don't miss the authentic Batman Utility belt as well (1 of only 750 made)!

We still have almost 30,000 back issues to inventory, but we still managed to get quite a selection on the floor by opening day!  There are several thousand titles here from both Marvel and DC, with prices sure to please almost everyone. 

This is how our kids zone started the day.  It will be evolving over the next few months, but the focus of this area is comics and activities for kids 12 and under.  The Spidey table and beanbag chairs were a hit with the little ones!

Our new release display is just about filled to capacity, and we separate out those issues that arrive on Wednesdays.  This should make it pretty easy to find that "just released" comic!

And finally, this is the reverse view of the store.  Spidey is the main attraction here, protecting our racks of Sci-Fi and comic related magazines!

So, all these pictures can't possibly show you all that we have in the store!  Stop on in, and see what we have to offer.  We think we offer something for just about everyone!
